Overview
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. In New South Wales this is known as a ‘white card’. Completion of this course also provides you with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised course CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry.
The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
Dymocks Training is authorised by SafeWork NSW to deliver this course. On successful completion of training you will be given a Statement of Training at the conclusion of training. This lasts 60 days and enables you to enter any construction site. SafeWork NSW will issue your White Card up to 60 days after the training.

Course Outline
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work within a construction and manual handling environment. It will satisfy SafeWork NSW requirements for the White Card.
You would complete this course if you would like to work within a construction setting.
The training covers both knowledge components (what a learner will be trained to do) and competency assessment (what a learner will be required to demonstrate).

Course Duration
The training will take place over 8 hours including a 30 minute lunch break and 2x 15 minute recess breaks.Course Delivery
The training is delivered in accordance with SafeWork NSW course materials and requirements.
The course is assessed through a range of practical and written assessments. These are conducted in English and the trainer is unable to provide assistance in the assessment as the work completed must be that of the learner.

Prerequisites
Please note that to enrol in the course you will need to demonstrate basic literacy and numeracy skills including:
- Ability to locate, recognise and follow safety signs and safety instructions written in English
- Ability to complete basic forms such as a incident notification or hazard identification form
- Ability to ask questions, listen to instructions and communicate to others about a hazard or problem
- Problem solving skills to select an appropriate risk control measure to address a problem or hazard

All workers in the construction industry in Australia need to take the White Card course, regardless of their job role. This includes:
- Employees

You need to be able to validate your identity with 100 points of ID prior to commencement of the course. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to commencement of class to enable sufficient time.
The acceptable documents for 100 points of ID are listed below and contain both primary and secondary documents. You can provide only one (1) primary document with secondary documents to form 100 points. Alternatively, you can provide a combination of secondary documents to form 100 points. The combination of documents must contain a date of birth, current residential address, photograph and signature. Please bring original evidence of identity documents with you. Certified copies will not be accepted.
Primary ID
- The primary ID document must be a valid passport, full original Australian birth certificate or birth card, or Australian citizenship certificate.
- The primary ID document must be current or expired within the last two years but not cancelled.
Secondary ID
- You must provide a combination of secondary ID documents that totals 100 points.
- The secondary ID documents must be valid original documents or cards issued in Australia.
- If you use more than one credit or ATM card, or bank statements, they must be from different financial institutions.
Secondary ID documents include:
- Current Australian drivers licence
- Current Australian boat operator’s photo licence
- Current Australian firearms licence
- Current Australian state or territory proof of age/photo card
- Australian defence or police photo identification card
- Medicare card
- Bank ATM or credit card
- Centrelink card
- Motor vehicle registration papers
- Motor vehicle insurance certificate
- Department of Veterans Affairs card
- Property (council) rates notice
- Property lease agreement
- Home insurance papers
- Utility bill; eg: electrical, water, gas
- Bank statement/s
If you are unable to provide the correct ID, you will not be permitted to take the course.
